Job Description

SUMMARY STATEMENT: The individual will provide athletic training services for the athletes of the college’s intercollegiate sports teams and athletic events sponsored by the College.  This is a 12-month position. ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS: A.    The Athletic Trainer reports directly to and is responsible to the Director of Athletics and ARCC. B.    The position provides supervision to student workers. C.    The Athletic Trainer coordinates most closely with the student-athletes, coaches, ARCC Coordinator, Fitness Center Coordinator, team physician, physical therapist and other members of the medical community. ESSENTIAL DUTIES:  Provide athletic training services to the Hagerstown Community College Athletes.  On-site care and management of student athletes’ injuries and illnesses including prevention, evaluation and treatment.  Assess risk of injury, perform ergonomic evaluation and coaching, self-care implementation, and overall wellness promotion.  Develop and monitor rehabilitation plans for affected athletes. Conduct and review athlete intake documentation for clearance and maintain electronic records, including all patient encounters.  Coordinate and implement injury prevention programs and customize preventative strategies to suit athletic teams.  Provide accommodation recommendations related to sport for student-athletes with restrictions or limitations.  Communicate with physicians, coaches, and athletic staff regarding the injury status of athletes, while complying with HIPAA and FERPA regulations. Carry out medical care for assigned student-athletes per the sports medicine standard operating procedures.  Provide coverage for all home games/contests, practices and college-sponsored athletic events (within the allotted time, as recommended per the Director of Athletics and
